Water Source

Water Source

Mr. Moneeb Adeen Adeeb Kittan is a resident of An Nazla Ash Sharqiya in the northern part of Tulkarem. This locality relies on one groundwater well in meeting the domestic and agricultural needs of its inhabitants. Not rehabilitated since 1959 the well suffered from a number of technical malfunctions especially the low efficiency of the pumps limiting the water extraction rates and increasing the price of water. In addition to the very low domestic consumption rates water for cultivating the fertile agricultural land also became very scarce. As a result out of the village’s 274 dunums, more than 200 have been left uncultivated. This is especially serious in a context where agricultural activities constitute the main source of income for this village.

Moneeb has been working as a farmer since his early years as a young man and is currently the head of a household comprised of 6 individuals. His father once owned and cultivated 50 dunums of land with eggplants, tomatoes, peppers and other types of vegetables, a profession that he carries on till this day. The problem of scarce water resources and the resulting high cost of pumpage have posed many challenges for him and his livelihood in recent years. Today after the groundwater well has been rehabilitated by PHG, Moneeb has replanted his land with several types of crops such cucumber, tomatoes, watermelon, eggplant. He is optimistic that his life is changing positively as he is now able to protect his land and increase his income.
