On April 24, 2008 the Organization celebrated its 20th anniversary in Ramallah Cultural Center with a guest list of more than 700 people representing governmental
and non-governmental organizations, delegates from numerous international funding agencies, beneficiaries and members of local councils from all the Palestinian Governorates.
A number of speeches were given during the event including one by the Head of the Management Board Eng. George Odeh in which he pointed out the importance of the partnership relations between non-governmental, governmental and local sectors in order to achieve comprehensive development. The audience was also addressed by the Palestinian Water Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Local Government, the Environmental Quality Authority, PNGO and a representative from the beneficiaries. Colleagues from Gaza participated in the event through video conference.
The Organization’s achievements in the West Bank and Gaza were illustrated during the celebration including the interventions implemented in 210 villages and refugee camps summed up in the rehabilitation of 94 groundwater wells, rehabilitation of water networks and the layout of new water networks in 51 villages with a total length of 142 km, and the excavation of 6300 rainwater harvesting cisterns in addition to other activities targeting more than 70,000 beneficiaries both directly and indirectly.
After the meeting an Art Exhibition entitled “Coming Thirst” designed by the Artist Marwan Allan who prepared a series of painting that illustrate water and environmental problems on the local and global levels was opened.
