One of the primary aims of the WaSH Monitoring Project is to help promote awareness of the water crisis in the Occupied Territories, and to motivate other groups to take action to improve the situation there. Towards that end, “The Palestine Water for Life Campaign” was established in order to make the WaSH mandate goal of emergency response into a reality. A web-based campaign and international advocacy effort, it seeks to ensure that the data from WaSH MP’s weekly report pinpointing the needs related to water and sanitation of the 708 localities in the West Bank and Gaza, are made widely available and that the hundreds of communities are not neglected.
As such, the Campaign looks to be an important link between the information collection and the actual implementation of changes on the ground. The current reality on the ground, highlighted by the findings of these reports, reveals that there is little time to waist in responding to these basic water needs.
Specifically, the Water for Life Campaign, seeks to promote mobilization by encouraging the following:
Usage of WaSH MP report findings
Coordination among related donor and relief organizations
Promoting greater worldwide awareness of the current water needs in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Campaign therefore looks to draw the attention of international humanitarian agencies working in Palestine, and those working elsewhere; of international human rights groups, solidarity groups, and concerned individuals who are looking to do more in relation to water in Palestine. The campaign website will be a dynamic tool in which water related information that is collected from the areas is regularly updated, in which donor activities are reported, where articles and information about water in Palestine are presented, where maps and figures are easily accessible, and where WaSH reports are presented.
